Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Hmmm...
It seems the good colour ranges have already been taken. I'm not sold on any of these. Browny-yellow (not quite the same as the megasphere), orange and demon pink. However, the vary last one looks like it could provide a solution - multicolour. Unfortunately, I could only get it looking decent on the final frame because there is so little detail on the earlier ones and getting a subtle, good looking orange to blue transition (or any other transition for that matter) was beyond me with so little detail to work with.

Here's the stuff from the BFG Edition, posted because I didn't see anyone else do it.
I heard that the Ouch face in the XBLA version was different, can anyone confirm this?

I, on the other hand, am not too much of a fan of them. It'd have been better if the symbol remained as is but with a different color (green or blue). This way they'll avoid the whole 'Red Cross' "issue" while keeping the same symbol we've used to all these years.

I think the pills look really pretty bad. They are not well drawn and are too big (though making them smaller probably would also look bad given the smal number of pixels there are to play with). I agree that a green cross would have been a better solution because it is used as a symbol to indicate a pharmacy in many countries.

I'm surprised nobody made a sphere using the status bar face.

Well, it's way better than what they did with Wolfenstein 3d's medkit..Enjay wrote:I think the pills look really pretty bad. Green would've worked on the medkit and stimpack, but not the Bezerk Pack, unless they changed the red tint effect from red to green, it would seem very strange. Maybe a great alternative would've been a red UAC logo on the Bezerk Pack, and green crosses on the others. Another thing would be to have the wording "AID" in red writing, but none of this matters, Id won't listen to us. I agree that the pills look rather strange, but I posted them because somebody may want to use them, and that menu image could be useful, it's now my phone wallpaper
But Wolfenstein 3d... I wish they did anything but a damn heart.

Hey, hearts have been used to measure life in plenty of computer games.

True, but a game where you are fighting Nazis? I think they should've gave the Red Cross the middle finger, and left the sprites the way they were.

Berserk packs could easily do with a white cross on a black medikit.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
The problem is, the emblem is protected by law. It's just the The Red Cross took an incredibly long time to do anything about it. I think when they did, it came as a surprise to many people because it was just assumed by many that it was an international symbol of aid without copyright as such. Perhaps that should have been considered as reason enough to throw out their claims (it has been with other similar time-lapsed claims) but with the importance of the symbol, the laws and countries which back it up I guess it was regarded differently. For id to carry on using it knowingly could have invited legal action.gerolf wrote:True, but a game where you are fighting Nazis? I can't say that I have ever associated the red of the cross on the berserk pack with the red screen tint though and wouldn't see a problem with a pack with a non-red cross causing a red tint as problematic myself. Anyway, thanks for posting the "pill" sprites. It's appreciated. It's just that I think id could have done something far better. Perhaps this? Maybe not.

Yeah, a green cross or a red heart (aww a secret admirer left cute little boxes of aid just for you ) would have been so much better than the pill icon. Doesn't that also count as a drug reference? Those are usually flagged on the age-rating list aren't they?
