Right, unless it's something like a nifty scope or something surrounded by solid pixels. It looks messy in Doom if the edges are anti-aliased in any way.

Everyone's gotta learn the (not so) fidgety spriting techniques somehow. Learn by screwing up. Aw yeah!
My guess is that Mr. Solo was working with layers and accidentally painted on some white pixels instead of erasing them. Tends to happen. Everything looks fine at a glance but OH NO, place it on a non-white background and that's what you get.

Damn you squared background of photoshop! You always hide partial trasparent pixels!
Well... Now I have to polish around 29 frames... Aaaaaaaaargh!

Always a good idea to keep a full red layer at the bottom, just for checking things out. Makes things... 29 times easier. ;)

Photoshop? I use Paint .Net even though I still think its a pain in the ass sometimes (like if I print screen it has my desktop on the right side of the screen shot.

The easiest way to avoid painting outside of a layer that you know for sure doesn't have partial translucency (binary/stencil alpha just to mention a few synonyms) is to ctrl-click on the layer's thumbnail.
Since that'll set a selection according to the layer's alpha, with no translucency being a full selection. (Also works for masks, with white being full.) [Note: Selections have "alpha" levels too, probably because masks aren't just white and black - but also everything in between.]

(sorry for the bad animation, but I would be supposed to study now.. :P )
As a general note, liquids conform to gravity, meaning the blood in the vial should be at an angle rather than parallel to the edges of the vial. :p

It took a bit for me to understand what he was saying but get a glass of water or something and look at how the water is in the cup, give you a good example (though I find it wierd to compare water to blood :p

More accurately would be to say that liquids try to form a horizontal plane based on which direction gravity is coming from.

Although it does get fucked up a bit by the angle and structure of its container, but that's not as big of an issue as not having the extreme basic of it right.

well, i managed to make a front barrel rotation for venom gun, and completely ripped it. but due to my lacking spriting skills, it doesn't included other frames such as bullet belts and another barrels inside, though. also, it was not a wide screen friendly at all, so i customized it's stock and it sure looks bad.

anyway, it needs more polishing also additional animations. if does anyone has eagers to polish it, i would much appreciated.

And what if it's pressurized blood and it is drained away at high pressure? I was thinking to those "shock" syringes that activates when they hit you... Anyways... God, you're so punctilious! :P
(by the way I was studying fluid dynamics yesterday... shame on me...)

Actually, it's from RTCW if I recall correctly.

Another cool tip is to ctrl+click a layer, then shift+ctrl+i (Inverse Selection), and press delete a bunch. This will make any stray pixels get nuked and create an aliased sprite.

@TheMightyHeracross Yup, it's the venom gun from RTCW. (Or it looks EXACTLY like it)
