Re: What's the WAD that bewitched you?
Well it's always hard to choose only one WAD as favourite...
In my case, Pochas Island was terribly congenial! The groove, of that WAD, is one of the best EVER created. The music, and the sound effects, had been very well-guessed.. And the plot...
Chopinska, I hope you could get on this way always.
Anyway lots of wads demonstrated high technical skills of the authors.. Need to mention KDIZD (and I'm looking forward to see their next creation, The Shores Of Hell), The City of the Damned 2 (the ultimate version), Action Doom 2 (for the effort of the team to create so funny and great designs)...
I hope this community will live long in the future, and resist against the more and more amazing new games of these times...

From the top, the wads that left a lasting impression on me were:
CIF3
Titan 2
UTnT
Titan 1
All of these were responsible for me taking up modding properly. Each is epic in its own way, CIF3 in its size and scope, the Titans in the way they expand the game, yet stay true to Id's original vison and UTnT for its sheer cinematic quality and jaw-dropping final boss.

This.
Okay, it may not be as good as all the other good stuff for DooM that I have played, but if it wasn't for this WAD then I would, I think, never have gotten into DooM again.
EDIT: Damn Youtube link won't work! Anyway, here's an url to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNoNMsKeHZ0

Re: What's the WAD that bewitched you?
In order:
-YAKWORLD.wad for showing me how big Doom wads could be, and how they could be changed with new textures and sounds.
-HOOVER.wad for showing me how real places could be put into Doom2 with some artistic licence and be cool.
-tnt.wad and plutonia.wad for showing me how hard Doom2 could be and how theming can be massively different yet still use similar resources.
-Batman Doom for demonstrating the power of a TC.
-the demo wad supplied with ZDoom v1.22 for showing me a world of wonders to be explored in an advanced engine.
-NJTrain.wad for showing me that ZDoom could be used to change the game significantly.
-ZDCMP#1 for being very awesome and showing me just what ZDoom could really do.
-Action Doom 2: Urban Brawl and Harmony for showing me the new power of TCs when done well with modern engines.
A lot of other wads have influenced or impressed me over time, but these ones are the ones that definitely made me think "Wow... I could be doing things at this level with (Z)Doom as well!"

That was my first PWAD ever.
But NJTRAIN and Void win it for me.

- Smdoom.wad (being a Sailor Moon fan, i found this wad to be kinda cool. too bad the sounds suck.)
- Evatree.wad
- Teitenga.wad (one of the first zdoom levels i played)

WolfenDoom, it introduced me into Doom and game modding in general.

Actually yeah I remember seeing that in a magazine and my mind was blown.Ichor wrote:Simpsons graphics replacement (this was waaay back in the early seasons)

I kinda miss that naive phase when a graphics WAD wowed me.
Also, not Doom, but one of the first game mods I ever played that made me think of the fact that I could make my own game was the Starship Troopers TC for Duke 3D.

Re: What's the WAD that bewitched you?
One of the first things I did when I figured out how to replace graphics in Doom was replace all the weapons with weapons from Duke Nukem 3D. It was so god damn awesome at the time. I think I still have the wad somewhere.Ceeb wrote:I kinda miss that naive phase when a graphics WAD wowed me.
Re: What's the WAD that bewitched you?
What really got me was 3rd TnT. First wad with custom monsters, weapons, slopes and fog... It was last reason why leave Duke and Legacy moding and switch to ZDooM.
