Looks nice but needs some more overlaying with the barrel and the flash.

I gave it a try with a subtle light blue on Freedoom's plasma rifle:

Thought I'd post this.

Combination of your tutorial and your chaingun muzzle flash in action.

EDIT: Reoriented the muzzleflash.

Thanks again for this tutorial, zrrion! It's really improved quite a few weapons.

This is my first attempt at any sprite work that didn't involve a simple palette swap. I wasn't sure how much to blend the gradient into weapon, so I tried to experiment a little. Which of the two that I posted above would you say looks better?

Edit: Nice tutorial by the way zrrion.

It looks good, although I'd've probably used 00 00 FF for the colour of the "soft glow" layer.

@Yholl: It looks good, and I'm glad you like the tutorial. My only gripe is that the muzzleflash's center is higher than the muzzle. The flash should be coming from the center of the muzzle and radiating out from there. As a result it looks odd for the flash to be up that high.

The weapon is ripped from an app installed on the IPod of my little brother and this is what came out:

it works like the Doom chaingun at the moment so I had to make two muzzle flashes for this weapon.

Great tutorial that extra glow with the gaussian blur was exactly what I needed.
