You mean like the Original Doom weapon sprites?

Yes, I was referring to ZDoom or any other port, which does not require any palette, and can recognize all SVGA graphics. It's 2011, for cryin' out loud, the SVGA monitors are in business for 20 years now...

Marty's comment was more in line with trying to make the graphics look more consistent with ones that already exist. Photographed hands wouldn't look nearly the same as Doomguy's iconic arm hair, for one.

Sure they wouldn't, but in this case, all y'need to do is photograph your hand for all weaponz, and then hard rip them all - it takes less than a day, even if I count all frames for all weaponz.

I know...my speaking habits :P It's a curse I'm afraid ;)

What I meant to say is that a hairy arm a DoomGuy does not make :) seriously, your own photographed hand can be just as good as DoomGuy's original handz. Not just the appearance, but you can also twist your own handz into lots of foxy "poses", whilst at DoomGuy's handz, you're forced to use those which came wit' da game...

I also like Duke Nukem's handz BTW

Removing the hair from Doomguy's arm is actually harder than photographing a female hand from FPS perspective and hard rip it - but it's your choice. If you REALLY want to have authentic HUD weapons, you should ask Thing from the Addams Family...it would gladly give you a hand! ;)

Girls with hairy arms aren't my style :) bleh

Lies, the only thing it requires is knowing what you're doing.
Though how to learn that, don't ask. I really don't know.
