[RESOURCE] Tamer Of The Dark (Veridion)

Post by Zanieon »

Image

Well, i'm releasing Veridion as a new boss monster for use in any wad, his behavior don't have any SUPREME ROFL 360QUICKSCOPE AoE attack that 99% of the bosses in any Zandronum Invasion wads have but actually his original behavior is:
  • Teleport like Doom 3 Wraith
  • Kick the player when near (basic melee attack)
  • Shoots a red magic ball that chases you and does average damage with splash (weakest attack)
  • Punch the ground making a black magic ball which goes on floor only, chases you and do high damage with splash (medium attack)
  • Makes a grimace to you, summoning a Seal of black magic which behaves exactly as Arch-Vile flames and explode doing fatal damage if health isn't beyond 100 or not having any armor
  • Uses his scythe as alternative melee attack which can be fatal sometimes if health isn't beyond 100
  • Teleport using the scythe attack above which he potentially will backstab you
His mechanics of combat are intended for cooperative matches since in single player he really can trolls you infinite times (pretty sure people will always MDK him)

Download (10MB) (yeah it's 10MB cuz he have tons of sprites)

Also, he's not paletted, i didn't had enough patience to do, so i'm going request, theres anyone willing to make him paletted? (just him, the projectiles/effects sprites are already paletted)

EDIT: Request sent on resources request thread here

Yeah, would be cool if someone could step up and do some real doom-looking (paletted) sprites for this. So that the sprites don't look as though they were just ported from somewhere. :)

Yeah i think i'm going request it on the request thread then, i'll update and submit him to R667 repo when i have paletted version of those sprites, he doesn't look complete shit on software mode tho, but he goes gray almost entirely, for now he's just usefull if going to be used in a OpenGL-only wad.

While your monster/rip is really amazing and well defined, in contrary its feet seems to be a bit out of perspective IMOH. Anyway, I'll see if I'm capable to do that palette stuff for you.

Thanks and since i made it originally for Hunter's Moon, so this question from the FAQ there would answer about the feet issue since you are not the only one that already commented this to me so...
Revilution wrote:Q: Why certain monsters are so huge? and why some of those have legs bigger than it's whole body?
A: The mod's concept follows the idea of "intimidation in size" to make these monsters not only more intimidating to the player but too to make them be the priority of kills between the hordes, about the huge legs in some of them, their concept is a own-concept for the mod which i can call "inverse-concept", how many games you saw monsters with huge arms and torso and tiny waist and legs?, so, to break a bit this common in everything, i decided make some of those on this new concept, this makes them gain certain abilities than others which don't have that which is jump and kick the player with a considerable damage.
In a nutshell i just make this to be some kind of combo breaker from the normal concept of enemies, since you can see that this thing is so common, really, even on real life there are people that goes to the academy and only exercise arms and upper body not giving a shit to the rest, resulting on this, lol.

Well at least in terms of extra scaling that i applied to the feet, he just have around 35% extra size from the original size, there are others which goes more on percentage applied for extra size after him on Hunter's Moon , Cyberdemon and Invuln in case is 50%, before version 2.6, the Baron of Hell was the one which i had most exagerated on this, but with time i disliked and found him stupid, so i remade.

Just a minor bump:

After a terrible server/modem buffering drop with my Gore project inside GitHUB, I decided to remove the entire repo from git.
So from now Gore will be updated via releases on ZDoomForums.
For this reason I don't have the necessary time/concentration to fix your HellKnighted-Tamer, so it's simply up to you to fix the Boss. But I think you are much much much more skilled than me with such stuff.

Well, the base of this concept came from a Interplay's game called Alter Echo for Playstation 2, however the entire concept of the game there is very different and a bit strange in the same time, but it is a good game.

That's good, R667 hasn't updated its bestiary in a while.
