[Sounds] HQ Wolfenstein 3d Adlib Sounds in WAV Format

Post by PSTrooper »

I have a collection of all the Adlib sounds from "Wolfenstein 3d" and "Spear of Destiny" in .WAV format, even the ones that aren't used in game.
This resource should be useful for someone making a Wolfenstein style mod for Zdoom, among other things.

All the sounds were named after the naming convention used for Adlib sounds in ECWolf.
I recorded each sound using the built in record feature in DOSBox, with a sampling rate of 49716 Hz, same as the OPL2 chip that the sounds originally used. The reverb effects in some of the sounds may go on for up to 30 seconds, which I kept for authenticity, so they sound exactly like they do in game. These are the best sounding Adlib sounds available, not even the ones from PS3-Wolfenstein 3d sound this good!
There are a few sounds that differ between "Wolf" and "Spear", like the rocket firing sound and some of the guard death sounds. I've kept both versions from both games for completeness. Also, the bosses seem to use the same sound with slight differences each. I've kept all of them anyway since each one was a separate file.

Oh the nostalgies :) Thank you for your work, they sound very good, and still very old-fashioned. Ahh the good old days, aye?
I found out that recording the sounds via a sound recorder running in the background (Audio Playback Recorder 3.6 for instance) and then refining them sounds with AtomixMP3 can yield marvelous results. It is also effective at games where you can't rip or extract the sounds.

You should take a look at Spear Resurrection or Spear: End of Destiny, they also have some good Adlib files.

Yeah I know all about those recording programs, having looked at several in the past, I've found only a few that met my needs. I can't make any promises about doing anymore games, though. It was extremely tedious getting this done, having to replace the item sounds with a mod using the sounds I needed to record that would otherwise be impossible to record ingame or would only play over other sounds.
