SHADES' high-res Here-Xen ~community~ source:
HeyHey all, this is the one stop for my high-res Heretic / HeXen themed textures! Basically I'm posting these to get feedback and make improvements as necessary. I don't aim to make high-res of the whole set of default Heretic, HeXen or HeXen 2 textures, but to have an overall new textureset entirely for a surprise project. Of course there other high res textures out there (Ettingrinder's CastleRCK for example) that I got permission to use but still. Note that some textures were based on unique creations for Hpack and other medieval mods:
- All Stucco variants!

- different colors of wood easy to make from this....

STILL TO-DO:

- originally EttinGrinder's work, again!

Not bad at all, these look useful.
Can you tell me, where can I find Heretic-Hexen-Blood high resolution sprites? I'm thinking about the enemies.

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
Probably nowhere? I don't think any of their respective communities is nearly dedicated enough to do high-res sprites; considering how long it's taken (and still is taking) for a useful set of high-res Doom sprites to happen. Maybe models exist in the JHeretic packs, Transfusion, etc, that could be used (or perhaps turned back into sprites and further refined to match the old sprites), but otherwise, I don't think such a thing even exists.

Last time I checked, there were a few static models for those games and some of the enemies were done, particularly for Heretic. However, the quality was varied and tended towards the "not so good" end of things.

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
I understand. I was curious how come so many hi-res wall texture packs are made, but no sprites. thief666 had a pretty good set of Zombiemen and Shotgun guys, but the other monsters...well...they had questionable values.
Hexen-heretic hi-res monsters would be "awsum", to say the least. I'll check out the models, although I'm not sure what to expect.

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
I find that hi-res sprites tend to just exaggerate the flatness and low frame-count of the sprites, making them look worse. Same with hi-res textures - they just tend to highlight bad texture alignments and simplistic architecture of the original levels.
If a 'DoomHD' was to be successful, everything would need to be reworked. Levels would need a complete makeover from scratch, HD sounds and music, quality 3d models ditching sprites completely etc. At that point it might not even be Doom anymore for some people though. I think a good example of a HD remake is Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary.

All right then. What about Doom, Heretic, Hexen etc. models? Do they look fugly as well, or better than sprites?

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
The currently available models are pretty poor quality, imo. 3D models are always going to look odd in the original maps - but it would still be fun to use occasionally if they were actually good - i.e. on par with the EDuke stuff. Ideally money would have to be involved to get things rolling unfortunately, I'm sure.

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
You mean, technically, an MD3 model could be decent if someone skilled enough would make it so? I mean, the technological conditions are present for MD3 modelz to be actually good? I'm not talking about competing or comparing to Doom 3-Half life 2-Crysis model stuff, and such, but Doom does not have to be absolutely THAT modern.
I'm using Hexen-GZDoom as a medium base, this is why I was asking about models, if they could replace sprites, how would they look.
Your idea, however, sounds pretty good. If there is a skilled modelist around, I would gladly play munnies for certain monster MD3s with attack-death scenes.

http://crbutts.blogspot.com/2012/01/more-hexen-wip.html - spare work from a guy from Raven... just sitting on his hard drive!!!!
Well, maybe - just maybe - this goes beyond GZdoom. And I encourage anyone who wants to augument the textures I post here to do so (there are still things nagging me about the stucco one 4 example)

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
There is a chance I'll play around with these textures once there'll be more - if that's alright. I could do windows and such to them, however, I can NOT promise I'll stick to palettes...

Re: SHADES' high-res Here-Xen source:
By all means... I don't have all the time in the world to make more and tbh I don't need to stick to palettes... I'm not simply high res'ing all the Heretic HeXen textures but making a new high res pack with theme textures for a new project.

What you use at creating hi-res textures?
