Re: Custom Texture Thread.
Heh, interesting. I'm tempted to make a texture out of one now but, no, it's not a popadom.

Nice looking marble texture and all, but guessing the real origin of it would be tricky.Enjay wrote:A cookie to the first person who guesses what the first texture is a picture of.
Let me guess anyway; Is it Dog's Hair? A Hairy Coat... Or Carpet, maybe?
Re: Custom Texture Thread.
Very close. Very close indeed. Good enough for a cookie I reckon.
Here, have a giant one:
The original image was a sheepskin rug photographed under artificial light. This is not the original pic (because I don't have it any more) but it was something like this:

Guess the mystery texture:
Hey, you know what? Here's a paletted version. In the Chex Quest palette.

Anyway i'm impressed. It looks like an animal fur like sheep's but it also does look like something stone-y. Truly nice edit there, Enjay! Oh, and i guess now we have Free Cookie Texture Sample for everyone, eh?
Re: Custom Texture Thread.
I just spent some time messing around with a few of the textures from one of my favourite really old games: Eye of the Beholder. Basically, I was trying to make them a bit, more suited to Doom. I'll be honest, in their original state, they're not the right size and their colours are too bright/garish for Doom so I didn't hold out too much hope.
I only tackled one set (the red coloured sewer area of the first 3 levels), resizing them to (mostly 128x128), adding stuff to them and generally chopping them around a bit to make them more Doom compatible. They actually turned out better than I expected and, who knows, they might even be of use to someone for something. I also did one of the textures from the Drow maps. It was just a very quick, rough and ready conversion but it didn't turn out too bad either. I may look at some of the others at some point but because of their irregular (stone rather than brick) appearance and the fact that they have very few colours on them, they might not turn out great. Perhaps the slimy rock from the deeper dungeons might work out. I won't be doing them in a hurry though.
Anyway, samples:
I've put them in a crappy test map for inspection. There are quite a few switches and/or puzzle textures in there, but I didn't set them up as working switches. That's easy to do if anyone wants to use them.

Feel free to do with them what you will... or not.

An industrial non-slip floor coating.
Rather boring looking office carpet.
Fake granite-looking peg board.
A cookie to the first person who guesses what the first texture is a picture of.
Expansions of your Lino/no-slip/etc floors first:
Neo-Late 20th century generic store pegboard:
And now proper 128 height versions of the Alpha PALE-walls:

Some fancy curtains. Based on graphics that appeared in one room in Castlevania:SOTN (Try and guess where)

A combination of Macil,

and Geoff
that I Frankensteined together and edited a bit.
(x2 for great forum justice)
Still needs a bit of tidying, but I'm getting there. I plan on using it on a comms screen at some point (probably animated).

Enjay: Not bad at all, I like his black and red eye, looks pretty mean!
Actually, I made some screens before for something strife related, that was put to rest. Take a look. Free for use, just give credit.
