Spawn ID's like in Hexen are just as bad a crutch as conversation IDs. They need to be supported because Hexen had them.
ZDoom's preferred way of referencing actor classes is the class name. Everything else is just a workaround to make old stuff work.

ZDoom provides alternates to spawn numbers (and even to doomednums) for most purposes.
