So, I've noticed that dynlights don't light up nearby objects. For example, in a pitch black room, the level geometry does get lit up, but everything else is still dark, including the player's weapon.

The code calculating the light level for things (decals, particles, sprites, player sprites, wall sprites and voxels) does not add the light of nearby dynlights. The light is also missing on sloped planes. And last, it only does normal lights. So like everything else in the software renderer, it only works half. ;)

Random question, why doesn't ZDoom software renderer support at least fake build-like roll, if it's software surface is actually a 3D polygon? Is that not added because classic software (vid_forceddraw 1) won't support it?

You mean rotating the texture of the entire scene once it is on the GPU? Probably nobody ever spent the time adding it - plus historically the Linux and DirectDraw builds couldn't do this, but they could have chosen to just not do the roll there.

Just wanna drop by and give my appreciation for the poly renderer mode. It's something I've wanted to see for a while, and now I really want to test some maps with it. Heck, if you want me to test anything in particular, I'm up for it, because I usually don't have much to do anyway. :)

I was thinking what QZDoom could stand for, and the name CuisineDoom came up in my head. :D

QZDoom was a name I came up with because it was a letter relatively unused. Someone else actually came up with a similar idea in a feature request and it was [No]'d by Graf, using the name QZDoom. But seeing as how I was running out of "cool letters" to check I didn't let that bother me and moved forward with giving it that name. (No, it was not named because of that post - it was named in spite of it)

Some other ideas I had, that were rejected because they were already taken or they didn't seem to work: RZDoom, FZDoom, EZDoom, BZDoom, CZDoom, SZDoom.

If I ever made my own fork, I'm going to call it ZZDoom, so that it's more "last" in the list than ZDoom! :P
