g3.8pre-238-gdf6669b32 Random Crashing

Post by Enjay »

I've been getting random crashes with the last few git builds. It doesn't happen very often (so the different occasions might be for different reasons) but it usually happens when entering a map from a previous one, or starting a new game. I've had it happen on simple stock Doom2 maps through to complicated modern maps.

The attached crash report was generated after playing the map that I posted here: viewtopic.php?f=122&t=63316&p=1088102#p1088102 However, the map is very simple and I'd be surprised if the map itself was responsible (I've played it loads of times without a crash).

What I did was start the map, open the door, watch the cutscene, kill the zombie, pick up his dropped shotgun, press Esc to call up the menu, hit Enter a couple of time to start another game and crash!

Traveling to the next level is fixed in 06cea14. I kept this report open because it could to be more than one issue at play here.

There is more. I got a crash in the shadowmap updater when following Enjay's instructions.

Fixed the data side of the shadow maps. The renderer still only processes one and we need to make sure that if multiple ones need to be done it does not stall the CPU.
