Sonic: Lock and Load is a first-person shooter built on the GZDoom source port about everyone's favourite speed fastest blue hedgehog.
Sonic: Lock & Load currently still depends on a DOOM IWAD (preferably DOOM2.WAD) to work.

Problems with, questions about or suggestions for the mod? Leave a GitHub issue. You can also just reply here, I'll still see it.

Playable characters
  • Sonic the Hedgehog - Fast-paced gameplay. Sonic is oriented to anyone trying Lock & Load for the first time. His weapons complement his speed. His high mobility allows for easy traversal across the environment.
  • Amy Rose - Slower-paced, stealthy gameplay. Amy is slower than Sonic, but makes up for it with her more powerful weapons. Her gameplay is less oriented towards speed and more towards offence.
  • Classic Sonic - Fast-paced, but with a vanilla feel. Classic Sonic combines his Modern counterpart's high speed and mobility with a weapon set closer to vanilla DOOM.
  • Shadow the Hedgehog - Combat-focused gameplay. Shadow shares Sonic's speed, but none of his mobility. Instead, Shadow's weapon set focuses on high damage output and his gameplay style boils down to total destruction.

Levels
  • Station Square - The lobby, from which the other levels are accessible.
  • Side Levels - Currently, only Green Hill is available.
  • Tutorials - There are character-specific tutorials for each character.

Other info
  • Control setup - Make sure you go to Options > Configure Controls and bind controls under Required Bindings.
  • Mod options - Go to Options > Configure Mod Options to change options for the mod.
    • HUD Type - Change what HUD is shown in gameplay.
      • Unified - Shown in the screenshots. The default HUD.
      • Classic-Style - HUD style that takes after the classic games.
      • Legacy - HUD style where everything is on the bottom of the screen, like Classic DOOM.
    • Boost Type - Change how Sonic's Boost works.
    • Hyper Classic Sonic - Change whether or not you want Classic Sonic's Hyper form to be enabled.
    • Dash Aiming - When enabled, you can press a movement key (usually WASD) to aim Classic Sonic's dash ability.
    • Configure Music - Change music tracks for Super forms, invincibility and death.

They're hosted on a GitHub repo (and are too big to display here).

I can't show them directly, so:

I'm not the best at taking in-game screenshots, sorry.

Hm, interesting mod!
Do you intend to add Sonic's enemies later when you finish on the playable characters part of this mod?

Yep, I plan on releasing a whole campaign as soon as the other stuff is complete.
(thanks btw, means a lot)

Does it work on LZDoom or did I do something wrong?

It should work. What's it saying?

I tested on LZDoom but gave an error, something related to the menu I think.

Just checked myself -- something to do with AddListMenu? Odd, that never happened before...
Is there something preventing you from using standard GZDoom?

I was going to comment on how wrong it feels to have Sonic shooting people with guns...

But then, I was reminded of this.

Funnily enough, Shadow's weapon lineup hasn't even been planned yet.
(Also what the hell else was I gonna do, give Sonic a spin dash for each of his weapons? What do you think this is, Smash Bros?)

GZdoom behaves strangely with me, when i play for too long time it crashes, which doesn't happen in LZDoom.

I don't know if it's my machine or something they've already fixed in some new version.

Have you tried the latest version, then? Or maybe checking your OpenGL version?

I'll try to see if you have a new version to look at your mod. :)

I just tested your mod and it's a lot of fun and how I like sonic games I found cool this idea of bringing elements of it to Doom. :thumb:

I didn't understand it was Shadow, is it purposeful that he didn't have weapons or is it something related to sonic's modern games?

I liked the way with you treated the levels of difficulty where the easy is really easy and the hard really hard (obviously)

I'll be connected to the new updates if my GZDoom doesn't run into trouble.
