Sprites don’t look good for crates and other destructable environmental items, so we’ve been experimenting with voxels.
Have you considered going multi-actor with +FLATSPRITE? If the base actor was the bottom of the the crate which spawned the sides and the top with A_SpawnItemEx, you could use A_CopySpriteFrame in the child actors to get the texture/sprite of the bottom one. More of an initial hassle, but once done it will be a breeze creating differently textured variations of that crate.
Holy shit this is what I need to do.
Has anyone coded that already?

@rockstarraccoon
bah, can't keep the sides from being drawn over the top/bottom plane at certain angles. Might be a lost cause. Works otherwise though, including applying the scale of base actor to the child actors and offsets between them. Will see if I can solve the issues.

Edit: Nope; unsolvable. Voxels or 3d models it is.

Send me the code, I'd love to use this, even if it's buggy!

That's one floating, big, neat, silvery and way too lonely weapon.

Nah ... I know what she's thinking.

Are there going to be different types of boxes? Like barrels, bigger ones, smaller ones or just boxes with different colours to fit the level ambient

Ideally, I would like to have different types of boxes, but that's a question that would probably be better answered when we start replacing artistic assets with nonplaceholder stuff.

Now that looks epic.

It looks like the Sgt Mark demo. Is this true? But I love the alterations you've made.

Also the map/track sizes. I was worried that sort of scale and that sort of velocity wouldn't play nice together. Food for thought.

A lot of the maps in that video were "borrowed" from other vehicle mod attempts, just to have some places to hoon around.

Nope. Completely original, except for the sprite (placeholder by Doom Nukem) and the maps ("borrowed" from a wide variety of sources for demonstration purposes).

The maps will not be included in the build, obviously.

Either way, looks real fun promising, especially with that camera roll. And I echo Cap's statement: Much fluid. Such fast.
