Heretic Amplified [Released!]

Post by Evil Space Tomato »

Heretic Amplified
Released at last
  • New Weapons
    New Enemies
    New Levels
    New Sounds
    New Music
    New Items
I have been working on this on and off since around 2008 with a friend of mine, he helped design a few of the levels and did some testing.

Story:
This is a new episode for Heretic based on the idea that the D'Speril that was killed was not the real D'Speril, so you now have to find your way through his realm and slay him once and for all.

Progress: 100%

Oh, wow. :D This looks impressive! I don't think there's many Heretic WADs that modify the weapons, especially not this extensively.

Don't forget the string on the crossbow.

This is pretty neat, except I lag a lot whenever there's particles for some reason.

It lags a lot for me, too. When it starts it's great, but over time the FPS really takes a hit, getting down into the 1-2 FPS range and (obviously) makes it unplayable. I tried setting r_maxparticles to 0, but it had no effect (snow and everything kept falling, FPS would still drop). This happens in both ZDoom and GZDoom.

Also the sky seemed broken, using some kind of a place-holder image. If this is going to be for (G)ZDoom, I'd strongly recommend using a skybox. It can give the sky more depth, and it looks nicer when using mouselook (particularly in GZDoom).

I changed it to the metal parts glow blue with magic instead, it's a lot less work than adding a string that actually looks good.

Ya I was using an old version of ZDoom where noclip projectiles died when they hit a floor or ceiling, its fixed now.

I will consider it this spring once school is done for me.

Also fixed.

The levels that where afflicted by the snow and ash bug are e7m1, e7m2, e7m3, e7m8, e7m9 so those ones should work now.

No lag now, E7M2 and E7M3 were pretty cool as well. :)
A lot of inspiration here.

I finaly got to play it a little and I think its excelent so far. Maps are somehow hard to play. Some areas are too dark and hard without torch, dynamic lightning for weapons or boosted up brightness. I really like new weapons. Only think I dont like about them is the overused heretic crossbow. I am working on new crossbow sprites for Blasphemer, you could use them if you want.
