Psxdoom

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Post by Chris Neilson »

Hi.

Psxdoom riped level and texture from psxdoom CD and make map and texture into maptex and map01 - map59 in psxdoom.pk3 this is all done.

old version 1.0
Download: Psxdoom.zip
Download: Psxdoom_beta1.zip

new version 2.0
Download: Psxdoom_beta2.zip

old version 1.0
Download: Psxdoom TC
Make new firesky and blowup head from psxdoom made by Fenderc01

new version 2.0
Download: Psxdoom TC 2 beta

old version 1.5
Download: Psxdoom TC 1 beta

Topic: Playstation doom

Update fenderc01:
Fixes / Changes:
-Added flames to the title screen
-Added angry face for when you hold down the fire button for the chaingun and plasma rifle
-Randomized the normal face looking around
-Reduced the death sounds for soldier/sargent/chaingunner to 2 (instead of using 1 sound once and the other sound twice)
-Fixed the stretched skies (OK, more like a workaround)
-Changed key display order and fixed a key related bug on the HUD
-Map bugs (trapped in secret area, improper damage sectors, crusher in the wrong place, etc.)
-Removed Non-PlayStation quit sound effects
-Removed limit for number of simultaneous item pickup sounds
-Added the correct sound for trying to open a door without the proper key
-Began working on custom light fades (see exit room and green armor area on MAP01 for examples)
-Removed weapon sprites with custom offsets, using default sprites (if you don't like it, make your own sprites)

Features from PlayStation version:
-Music and Sound Effects
-Colored lighting
-Nightmare Spectre
-HUD
-Graphics
-Intro/Title Screen (minus a few things)
-All maps, including exclusives
-Speed and sizes of things/weapons adjusted

------------------------------------------------Old version-------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: New Titlepic, Interpic, Statebar, Demo 1, 2, 3 and reload texture from psxdoom.wad
add new handgranade but yet weapon in level. no color in level yet.

Update: New color on level, add new level 5, add new portal gun, add nightmare demon.

Enjoy.

I doubt you've managed to get what you claim to be the entire PSX Doom resources into a file only 3.5MB in size.

Care to clarify what's going on?

EDIT: I take it back, it looks like you HAVE managed it... :? So this is basically a conversion of the PSX version for ZDoom?

Well, I've DL'd it and I see what looks like all the maps and the textures to support them (as described). No sounds or music, which would obviously bump the file size a lot if they were included.

I've had a quick look and the maps seem like a pretty clean conversion. There isn't any coloured lighting, which is one of the things that gave PSXDoom its character. So, the maps look a bit plain (the PSX maps usually had even less detail than the originals) but the conversion seems pretty good. :)

Yeah. this level and texture in Psxdoom.pk3

you can play with zdoom run: 'Gzdoom -file psxdoom.pk3' or 'Zdoom -file psxdoom.pk3'

Good Luck.

Impressive :) I always loved the PSX version, but it definitely loses a lot without the correct lighting and SFX. Good job I have the PSX music pack lying about... ;)

Well, here are the SFX in the PSXUltra file. I know a lot of people have this but I can never find a link when I want to so I stuck in on Rapidshare.

Should be OK but it seemed to upload a bit quickly.

Works a treat, nice one big lad! 8-)

Now all we need is a SNDINFO-accessible reverb parameter

Dunno about a "pack" but the music is available. I think this is probably the best place to get it:

This page. It's under "Doom Music Wads".

Is this EVERY psx doom map, including the ones we already have? Like... E1M1 will have a painelemental hiding in a secret?

This is truly a godsend, as I was brought up with PSX DooM. Can't wait to take a stroll through the marshes and mansion again. Not to mention CLUB DOOM!

I would also like to see someone ripping the Super Shotgun graphics from PSX Final Doom which actually looks much better (The Barrels actually connect on both sides) than the original version.

Hmm really? I never noticed.

Speaking of, someone should totally rip the nightmare specture (if it's a different sprite, bit hard to tell) and the gib HUD face graphics.
