Cache Textures console command

Post by Zenon »

I have a habit of leaving GZDoom running in a window, paused in the background while I do other things, possibly for hours.
When I go back to it, the game stutters a bit when I turn around/start moving, etc., possibly due to having to load textures and such on the fly (that's my guess anyway).

Can a console command be added to re-cache the textures & sprites while in game?

They already are cached. What is happening here is Windows is swapping unused memory to the disk. Then when it gets used again, Windows has to swap something else out (whatever you were doing recently) to read it all back.

That's unfortunately beyond GZDoom's control. You either have to upgrade your amount of RAM, or put the swap file on a rapid storage medium (ie SSD).
