Change skin of model

Post by Apeirogon »

It would be nice have opportunity to change skin on the same model without re-defining it in modeldef.

I have, let's say, doom medikit model with default white skin, and I want create berserker pack using same model and black skin, but I dont want crte another block in modeldef.
You can say "use translation". Yes, it could be a solution, but what if another skin have not only another color, but another skin graphic. This include scars, signs of military rank, scrapes on armor, ricochet marks, tatoos, other graphicaly signs that distinguish model of one class/type one from other.

Now it can be achived only by redefining same model over ond over each time with another skin, which increasing size of modeldef and enthropy of the universe.

This was already no'd before and unless someone else steps in to do the work to code a better solution (there's been talks of a new model format to deprecate MODELDEF), I don't see this happening with MODELDEF.
