MAPINFO field for map author's name
It's a travesty that we don't have this after 20 years of megawads.
Could show it in the smaller font on the intermission screen, right below the map name. I've seen it done with manual graphics often enough.
I suppose this raises some questions about music/texture/actor/etc. credits, but let's leave that for later.

Agreed! With what Terminus has been doing lately, we may be seeing map compos becoming more popular.
This is also something one could add to ACS's printing functions, so you can intro maps in a compilation through a catch-all intro script.

Could just be handled like Eternity does and while normal behavior isn't changed, a console command will display the author name if run.
Ref: here, search for "creator".

Well since there's already a key name for it, might as well be compatible.Gez wrote:Could just be handled like Eternity does
Though I don't see the harm in a cvar to display it in intermissions, too.

Could be handy if we get a GetLevelInfo for strings, too, as it'd allow for a more standardized way to do HudMessage level intros that include the author's name.

I imagine waiting for zscript and having intermissions be exposed to it as a more likely scenario, though.

Nice thing to have for later, perhaps, but [wiki=Print#Cast_type]"PRINTNAME_LEVELCREATOR"[/wiki] would be the best place to start.Arctangent wrote:Could be handy if we get a GetLevelInfo for strings, too, as it'd allow for a more standardized way to do HudMessage level intros that include the author's name.

imo PRINTNAME_AUTHOR would be a better name

Re: MAPINFO field for map author's name
I was thinking of matching Eternity's key for the purpose, but I suppose that's not all that important (since the mapinfo types are already incompatible).

Re: MAPINFO field for map author's name
A question: how to deal with names written with Unicode characters? Actually restrict the name format to Windows-1252?

Re: MAPINFO field for map author's name
At the moment ZDoom does not handle unicode in any form, so the same would apply here for the time being.
