Mouse pointer in DOOM?

Postby 9Rifleman » Sun Feb 07, 2021 5:42 am

Hi,

hopefully this is the right place to ask. I tried searching the net far and wide, but couldn't find an answer, maybe I don't know the right wording - is it possible to use mouse pointer to interact with HUD/items/textures like, for example, in Shadowcaster? Or, using non-Doom related game example, System Shock?

I had an idea for a more adventure-like wad, and such functionality would fit perfectly.

Thanks a lot for any eventual info!

Certainly. You can use Libeye to get a mouse cursor that can interact with the environment (and HUD elements too, I guess). You can also use menus for HUD-related functionality, for example by using ZForms as a base.

Checked it out and since I've only ever worked with ACS/DECORATE, it looks harder than I expected, at least now. But thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction! At least it'll motivate me to try ZScript :D
