How to Replace Weapon Sprites in Slade?

I tried to rename the sprites but it didn't work.

You can simply right click and select 'Rename' and type in what you want, and make sure they match the sprite in the DECORATE/ZScript.

I've been told I'm not the best at explainin' things, but I'll do my best.

So, each part of a state for an actor requires a sprite. It's what you see in game. For example, the shotgun, which uses the sprites SHTF and SHTG. The shotgun's ready state is SHTG A 1 A_WeaponReady();, which corresponds to SHTGA0 in the list of Sprites for the WAD (Graphic (Doom)). That sprite, SHTGA0, is in the IWAD, and is made up of SHTG (which must always be exactly 4 characters), and A0, which is the rotation (weapons have no rotations, so it's always 0). Then when you fire, the shotgun has two sprites for the shot itself, SHTFB0 and SHTFC0, and SHTGB0, SHTGC0, and SHTGD0 for the reloading afterwards. Each of those actions have those sprites, a frame, and an amount of tics. So, SHTG (sprite), A (frame), and 1 (tic). The SHTG can be named whatever you want, as long as it matches the correct action in the DECORATE/ZScript, and it doesn't share the name with somethin' else. So SHTGA0 can be FISHC0 if you wanted, as long as it matches both in the list of sprites, and in the DECORATE/ZScript.

Most WADs have them at the top of the list on the left side. You can also filter text documents at the bottom of the list with the drop down menu. If it's a small WAD, such as a single monster, it's usually jus' called DECORATE or ZScript, but if it's bigger, like a .pk3 with multiple text documents, each will be named after the monster/weapon.
