A tool for grabbing PNGs in Linux?

Postby Kzer-Za » Sat Nov 28, 2020 4:29 am

By grabbing I, of course, mean setting the pixel that is considered by the engine the base of the picture: https://zdoom.org/wiki/GrAb

I used to use grabpng from Doomcrap collection, but it stopped working some time ago after I updated my system. Slade keeps crashing upon opening any graphics file. I filed a bug report, but it's most probably gonna be a long time until they fix it. Are there any other native Linux tools for that?

(The most ridiculous thing is that in the foreseeable future I will only need to grab one file).

I don't have the direct solution, but a workaround is to set up offsets in TEXTURES lump:
Code: Select allExpand view
// Wooden Sign with Offset
Sprite hnwsb0, 52, 61
{
  Patch  hnwsa0, 0, 0
  Offset 26, 61
}

Ah, right, I forgot about it :) Thanks!

I would still like a way to grab the png itself, but now I can specify the offset and at my leisure wait until either Slade is fixed or I come up with a way to make grabpng work again.

Have you tried recompiling grabpng? Or grabbing it from a package? E.g.: https://packagehub.suse.com/packages/grabpng/

Thanks, I didn't know where to find the sources. A couple years back, when I was looking for it, all I could find was an archive with already compiled binaries, and that only after a lot of searching, so when it stopped working recently I didn't think about trying to find the sources again. Now I recompiled it and it's working again. Thanks!
