Rendering a texture black, regardless of light

Postby FFFFRRRR » Sun Nov 22, 2020 6:33 am

Good day.

I have a flat, black texture that I want to use. It is supposed to be rendered pitch-black, regardless of the light level of the sector it is in.
Currently, when the sector is bright, the black is more akin to dark-gray. Which makes sense, but I'd like to know if there is a way to work around this.

I know you can use floor/ceiling-brightness or line-brightness in UDMF, but it would be cool if there was a way to make this texture look like that by default, since it is used in a lot of places across maps. Can someone help me with this?

Just open paint, fill it black and save as texture Black.png

Zip it into your pk3 resource file and apply to the desired objects, call it a day.

From this bit:

it sounds like that might be what he has done. However, I'm not sure why it isn't working because I have used that method and used the black texture in many, many situations and it always appears totally black.

I have attached the texture as well as my display settings. I also made a test scenario, see this screenshot here.

The sector on the left has a brightness of 0. The sector in the middle has 256. The one on the right has 176. I would like the texture to be pitch black regardless of brightness, basically, all of them should look the same, while still applying appropriate brightness to actors.

Your texture isn't black. Its colour is RGB 4, 9, 7. Make it 0, 0, 0 and it should work.
