What do the numbers do in the SWITCHES lump?

Ask about mapping, UDMF, using DoomBuilder/editor of choice, etc, here!

What do the numbers do in the SWITCHES lump?

Post by gman829 »

I'm trying to make a switches lump for a texture pack, but I don't know what the numbers under the "type" column mean. Do they have a specific function?

Have you looked at the [wiki]SWITCHES[/wiki] page?

Also, is there a particular reason that you want to make a SWITCHES style lump? If not, [wiki]ANIMDEFS[/wiki] is likely to be better.

So what if I set all my switch textures to 3? And Im making a SWITCHES lump because the pack I got didn't come with one.

The numbers for switches are as follows according to DEFSWANI.DAT
switches usable with each IWAD, 1=SW, 2=DOOM2, 3=registered/Ultimate DOOM
So, if you are mapping for DOOM2 then use 2*. Switches are either off or on.
And, of course, the dat file must be co#switches usable with each IWAD, 1=SW, 2=registered DOOM, 3=DOOM2mpiled with SWANTBLS.EXE

ANIMDEFS is more versatile, where you can also specify the duration for each switch state,
as for example animated switches with more than two frames.
And, of course, it is just a text lump.

That's backwards; it's 2 for Doom and 3 for Doom II.

I got this from an old download of utils050999.zip

I just checked, the download from https://zdoom.org/files/utils/utils050999.zip is correct.
#switches usable with each IWAD, 1=SW, 2=registered DOOM, 3=DOOM2
Nice catch, Gez :thumb:

Thanks. I think I'll stick to Animdefs.
