I know that using special 57 can be a bit frustrating at first,
but check the tutorial by Rachael

I simplified your map to just two sectors
Spoiler:
Of course, the more sectors you add, you have to give them their specific tag and specials.
In that case you might be better off with lower/upper sector things (simplified example taken from Tormentor's The Refinery).

I'm already more or less familiar with the use of portals and I still can't see what is wrong with my example. These lower/upper sector things seems to be already deprecated and a bit more confusing. Thanks by your help anyway.

I gave it one more shot:
Make sure that both sections are the same size, don't us the sky for the floor and give the upper section proper textures.
Then set up the action specials, following Rachael's tutorial. They must be in pairs,
  • a.) set up the lower sector, set up the upper sector
b.) link the lower sector to the upper sector, link the upper sectior to the lower sectior
1 set up the lower section
Spoiler:
2 link the lower section to the upper section
Spoiler:
3 set up the upper section
Spoiler:
4 link the upper section to the lower section
Spoiler:
the result

That was exactly the problem. Funny, I remember using sky as floor textures with portals and never encountering any problems. Many thanks for your help

It might depend on the setup whether a sky works or not. Never forget that a sky ceiling will affect some of the surrounding linedefs so it's never a good idea to use on a portal.
