Can MD3s be used in .wad files?
A friend recently convinced me to try using models in my mod, but he says MD3s can only be used in pk3 files, not in wad files.
Is this true?
I have been working with wad files since 1994, and I am reluctant to switch formats now.

If I recall from the last time this was asked, MD3 is too reliant on the concept of path and file names, and can't be easily altered to work with WAD-style lumps without a change to the format that editing tools may not support.

That's bad news.
I really don't like the idea of having to switch over.

Well, one thing that can ease the transition is Graf's tool, WadExt, which will automatically extract the contents of a WAD and arrange them into folders that comply with the ZIP-folder naming conventions.

.pk3 is a much better format. Much easier to keep tidy.
Re: Can MD3s be used in .wad files?
You could add the 3d model inside of a pk3 file and then add the pk3 file inside your wad. (it's kinda like a cheat but well, the 3D model is going to be inside the wad file)
B
ut I do recomend as others said that you should use pk3 (not as a workaround like I said before)

OTOH you can put any number of wad files inside a pk3 archive I think?

You technically can, but this leads to the game taking far longer to load and being overall worse for memory management, since gzdoom now needs to load the entire wad file into memory to do anything at all with it.rambo wrote:OTOH you can put any number of wad files inside a pk3 archive I think?
