How? Which? Who?

More Specifically.
The default Blood actor family. Who spawns them, what are their pointers and orientation? Are they children of the Mob or Damage inflicfor? Are they spawned with a direction or just the default east? Do they have defined rules for spawn location or is it just the point of impact? What should I expect this actor to pass or assume about its role in the game for inheritance or replacement?
