What do you think is the best name for Doom that is mostly agreed on cuz it's very confusing.
It is said that it's Doom, but it was stylized as DooM then later as DOOM. :|

"Doom" is the proper noun. All the variants are just stylized, they're not different names. Use whichever makes sense depending on context and desire for style.

8-)

On Id Software's part it was always stylized as "DOOM" ever since its original announcement.

The "DooM" style was only ever used by fans.

I very much prefer it writing normally and styling is as "Doom"

I'd always wondered why the fans kept using "DooM" to replicate the logo, when clearly they should be writing it as DᵒᵒM. ;)

Pondering about it, organizing Doom games ("iD Tech 1" ones) is a bit of a pain.
Doom I guess is the most agreed on but naming it something like "Doom II: Hell on Earth", it kinda lacks oomph. :|
"DOOM II: Hell on Earth" seems ideal but it feels odd for some reason. :?
"DooM II: Hell on Earth", no. :blergh:

It's been styled as "id Sofware" by the company*. The normal styling would be "Id Software", with uppercased first letter since it's a proper name. ID implies an acronym, which it isn't*, since it's supposed to be the id as in id, ego, and superego of Freudian psychology. The styling "iD" is a complete aberration. If I may direct your attention to the logo that appears in Doom:

does this look like an upper-case "d" to you?

* I've read that very early in the company's existence, they explained it as being ID for "In Demand", and there was also the thing about Romero's "Ideas from the Deep". But they solidified on "id" as the term from psychology quite soon.

My apologies. Misread the logo. :(

At least it never was DooM: Evil Unleashed 3-D by I'd Software. I usually associate the DooM casing with fresh fans who are onboard for the alleged metal music parts.

but one casing I really hate to see sometimes, when some bring up certain 3d hardware technologies....

VooDoo

Doom (capital D only) or doom (all lowercase).

Either something screenreader-friendly and normal and predictable, or I'm in a mood for avoiding capitalizing anything at all.

DooM has the most swagger, but Doom is what I'd actually use in normal circumstances.

Thing is that if you look at the logo, the letters are all about the same size. Yes, the D and the M are slightly larger, but not meaningfully so. Each letter has the same width, and it's really only the "lower spikes" of the outer letters that are bigger than those of the inner letters.

Illustration when you crop the Doom logo so the outer letters don't have more room than the inner letters:

Still perfectly legible and recognizable.

Doom. id Software.

I think 3 weeks is quite long enough to let a topic like this run ...
