I thought this was debunked. Those sprites are out of place but they don't really match up with the Mussolini pics. It's way more likely that it was a digitized action figure.

Did someone start this myth for the LOLZ?

My headcanon is that there's no one Doomguy, just several likeminded marines who ended up more or less in the same awful situation. It would explain the appearance of player corpse sprites in the original Doom; they're the corpses of all the other Doomguys who tried and failed before you.

The second part makes sense, however, they first doesn't. How can a couple of marines run at the exact same speed, know the exact same things, and wield the same weapons in the same way?

They all just run as fast as their slowest member.

Down to atom precision is impossible.

Atom precision in Doom's resolution means very, very, very big atoms.

This is 2021, no one uses Doom.exe anymore.

There are several people (especially over at Doomworld) who might disagree.

And even then, the granularity of the assets and game physics hasn't really changed. Sure you could load high-res sprites and textures and what not, but then I don't care because you're no longer using the canonical material.

But even if you go high-res, your "atoms" will still be huge.

At least use Choco Doom, not doom.exe

Ok, just like making a atom to atom copy of a tree in MC is impossible, going the exact same path as your ancestors is impossible.

doom.exe runs pretty well even on new systems under DOSBox, and there are quite a few people who still do that.

In fact, didn't the Steam distributions do that (maybe still do)?

An atom is typically considered to be around 100 picometres (though this varies tremendously, of course). 1pm = 1 one trillionth of a metre. So, yes, it would be a big atom. :P

That
and they (over at Doomworld) are fanatical about it.
Just the mere mention of a different viewpoint drives them into a frenzy.
But I digress.

For some reason I find that the name Col. Josh "Blaster" Grimm would fit quite well,
considering the way he blasts his way through hell, cities, jungle, et al.
