Anyone ever made a custom enemy using a clay model?

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Anyone ever made a custom enemy using a clay model?

As far as I know nobody made clay models for custom enemies.

No. No one has ever thought of that.

Ever.

I mean in his defense he did say "custom enemies"

I can't think of any concrete examples of modders doing clay models. Even though it sounds nice on paper it turns out there's some problems with it, like the clay ripping when you're trying to repose the creature and a need to keep the clay moist during the entire capture procedure.

A while ago I planned to scan some Master of the Universe action figures for a just-for-fun project :) The bag with the figures is still lying around here somewhere.

I also interpreted the OP as saying that they weren't aware of anyone else following id's footsteps and using photos of things for custom sprites.

Quite a few of Freedoom's weapon sprites are based on toys, but AFAIK none of the monsters were based on photos of any similarly-shaped object.

Meanwhile, a big block of modeling clay I bought 10+ years ago, originally intended for doing the babuin sprites for HD, is still sitting on my shelf unopened...

I don't know if that clay is any good now.

Saw the thread title and immediately thought of Harmony.

I thought that old Doom Legacy mod Nimrod used clay models for some enemies.

Well, for my mod that's in progress I modeled some enemies out of LEGO bricks, if that counts.
