A Different Doom Movie
This thread is certainly not about the forbidden topic.
Instead, I want to focus on the subject of the Doom Novels.
Why doesn't Hollywood make a movie based on the Doom Novels and the first two games?

Re: A Different Doom Movie
Simply because the novels aren't as well-known as the games. Also, certain scenes wouldn't sound canon to the whole idea, like Flynn battling those 'Fred' aliens for instance.

I think the books are a great read, and I enjoy the characters enough to enjoy the 3rd and 4th ones in a way, even though they went radically off canon. But that whole "aliens tricking us" thing was really stupid, to be honest.

Re: A Different Doom Movie
In terms of translating books into cinema storytelling the Doom novels, as much as I loved especially when they went radically off canon, were one Tom Bombadil after another...
Re: A Different Doom Movie
The 1st doom book was OK, the rest were forgettable IMO.

I mean, have you read them?Zenon wrote:Why doesn't Hollywood make a movie based on the Doom Novels
Re: A Different Doom Movie
They can take a couple things from the books, but totally basing it off the books wouldn't work. Just have the two leads Flynn and Arlene battling demons. Maybe throw in some characters from the Doom Bible to get killed off along the way. Maybe have an evil human villain that gets turned into a demon like in the newer Doom games.

The attributes that make a doom game a doom game do not translate well to cinema imo.

Re: A Different Doom Movie
I agree on that. Doom is a solitary experience. It's Doomguy against Hell, and every single human being that crosses his way is either already dead or possessed. I don't think that would be anywhere easy to do. So... they follow the "Aliens ripoff" path: something happens, a team of marines go investigate, a few minutes of suspense to set the mood, marines are attacked when they are not expecting by unknown monsters, etc.kodi wrote:The attributes that make a doom game a doom game do not translate well to cinema imo.
