It's not just Stan Lee... Douglas Rain, the voice of HAL 9000, also died today.

RIP

Not if Disney runs it into a wall - and with such a profit driven corporation that's entirely possible.

I wonder what, if any, plans they have made for the Cameos in Marvel movies? Previously, I've seen lots of people suggesting that they should be filming a bunch of scenes to act as a library of shots that could be used after his death. I wonder if they did that?

Personally, I think it would be better for him to have one final, probably emotional, cameo and then the next film would not have one. I think that would underline the fact that he has passed better than having him live on in a "nothing to see here, it's all business as usual" kind of way. His legacy will carry on either way.

Anyway, at 95 he didn't have a bad run and kept pretty healthy almost to the end as I understand it.

To be fair, that isn't really what I meant. The very fact that it's in Disney's hands means that Marvel will never ever quite reach the glory it did in its prime.

What I am referring to is more the same thing that happened to games when the games industry really started to take shape. It's the old adage "they don't make em like they used to" - and the same will inevitably be true of Marvel.

Who knows, though - maybe some indie artist will push people's expectations and take the spotlight like Stan Lee did - and create a new breed of superheroes to save the world and the universe from villains. Until that day comes - there will always be whatever old comics you can get your hands on - or the movies, if you perchance enjoyed any of them.
