They're just ZIP files, so Slade should open them fine.

Try googling "slade3". Use the first link found.

Unfortunately, as far is I know, it's not yet possible to open .ipk3 files directly in Slade (I use the latest version (3.1.2 beta 5)). Before editing I always rename it to .pk3.

Sounds like some people do not know how to use a "File open" dialog...

When it comes down to it, as has already been said, they are just zip files so any file manager that can open zip files can open them - 7zip, WinRAR, Winzip, Total Commander, even Windows itself.

Of course, something like Slade has tools to edit the Doom specific features/lumps found within the file, but if you just want to open the file, there are many, many ways to do it.

I did put in a request on one or two occasions to make Slade more extension-agnostic. Obviously nothing came of that. :P
