I've played Sonic 1-3, Spinball (really fun game), Sonic Adventure 1-2 (for about 10 mins each... horrible games), and finally got Sonic '06 and as shitty as it is, it's actually kind of fun?

Sonic has always had issues going from 2D to 3D. Look at Sonic Mania. It's way better than any of the 3D releases offered by Sega, with the exception of Colors.

Colors was hardly 3D anyway, most of the game was sidescrolling. The same is true for both Generations and Forces.
