Making "anime" sound effects

Post by leileilol »

I know pitch shifts are often utilized and maybe low-passed white noise but are there other secret techniques and foley ideas in accomplishing like say a bloody slash or a squeaky boom? Like for example a fire alarm being pitched up to make that gundam tingling sound or a taiko being sped up/slowed down to make quake axe hit/grenade bounce

and before you start tossing links DON'T POST AUDIO LIBRARIES AND VIDEO RIPS OF SAID LIBRARIES FOR USE. Scavengers/"I kno' a guy who workizzlez fo me" secondhand scavenging need not apply

(this isn't restricted to anime, but japanese-style audio production in general and i'm asking here for the 2c from those few modders who already draw in from the heavy infleunce)

If I remember right a lot of early mecha sounds were made with pitched-shifted rubber sounds. I'd also be really interested in learning more about making sounds like this.

From what I've seen heard, half the fun is making characters exclaim things as often as possible. :P
