Well, after nine years in this forum, I am calling it quits. No matter how I try to say or explain
things as of late, I seem to come across badly. I've tried to make amends, or at least come to some mutual understanding, but nothing has gone as well as I had hoped. The place I used to come to for fun, nerdy times has started to feel rather odd. I don't deny any blame on my part, but these things are never 100% one-sided, either. Regardless, I'm leaving that all to the wind, now, and invite you to do the same.

LWM - Thank you for many mods, especially HQuest, which inspired both Inheritance and
Heretics of DooM.

Zhs2 - Without your talent and skill, none of it would have been possible. Feel free to
update, change, or stick in an old box in the attic anything to do with Inheritance.

-Ghost- - For your enthusiasm, I give you full power over Heretics of DooM. It's yours
now.

Rachael - I don't understand the bad blood between us, but I hope it fades over time.

WildWeasel - Ummm . . . Diaz? Nazis? Good times.

Strawberry Octopus - You have a MASTERPIECE on your hands! Bring it to full perfection,
no matter what it takes!

Matt - Thank you for being the only one as of yet to donate. Considering your avatar, I
have a nice little piece of rose quartz I can ship to you after I get paid next week.
Totally free, so no worries! Naniyue@hotmail.com if you are interested in it.

Anybody - Feel free to take command of OveR-PoweRED. I do, however, recommend adding
Jimmy's Unreal Tournament style font, shaded red.

And thanks to the community in general for making me go well over my DVD limit of DooM
stuff! I'm gonna need a Blu-Ray burner soon!

Well, even after writing this, if there is still some darkness left, then I have irrevocably failed.

Thank you, and Good Night.

This one's being held for review.

So there's no confusion Naniyue: This site is not required to conform to "free speech". This is a private place and we are not bound by the same rules as a government is - the rules we are bound by are completely different. If you don't like that, that's your problem, not our's. And with that, we're refusing to lock your thread. Let's see what the community has to say about this garbage you keep posting.

(Isn't it funny how you accused me of killing your free speech when you didn't want people to reply to your thread? Like I always say - the self-awareness is completely lacking in you. Oh, the irony!)

Also just so we're clear: I do not hold a grudge. There is no "bad blood" between us. Stop putting me in an awkward position with really fucked up posts like these - and I won't tell you off as I have done most other times you did that. It's really as simple as that. But you keep acting this way, like you've done nothing wrong and that you're the victim here, and I gotta break out the truth teller and tell you a little bit about yourself that you don't wanna hear. And that's why you're upset with me.

I don't post as much as possible in the forums since I usually check at mods that are interesting but this is one of those times I have to speak about this. I'll have to agree on this one.

Yes, there are specific rules in some places that don't apply in our so-called real life. I understand your frustration with the Doom community failing to give your financial assistance for your friend. To be honest, there are some places for that but I really don't think it's really easy giving your hard-earned money for something that we don't know 100% and asking from a gaming community, no less.

Life is unfair but it's better for us to move on than make online threads of negativity. Maybe this is not the community for some people to stay for a long time but there are other outlets that we can enjoy without, hopefully, offending someone. I'm not one of those people who will label someone as to act like edgy, hipster douchebags who feel that arguing over the internet for God knows how long makes them feel superior (seriously, arguing over the internet is like the Olympics for special people *no disrespect to handicapped people of any kind*) but I believe that maybe moving on to something might be better if you feel that this community isn't the same as before.

Look at this from our perspective: You spent a lot of time starting topics that were less like discussions and more like content collection threads. You shouldn't expect anyone to know you all that well when your primary contribution is to panhandle for entertainment.

Nor should you expect anyone to react very favorably to basically being called bad people for not immediately trusting a complete stranger. To the forum at large, you're just another anonymous making your mistakes everyone else's fault. (Especially with a guilt-trip like this thread here.) Frankly, if you expect us to beg you not to go, you're only deluding yourself. :?

If this community has changed, it's that we're a little more cynical because we've seen this a dozen more times already.

Alas, I have failed, as said in the post. None of us understand each other as well as I would have liked. Another case of, "If you knew me in person, then . . ." But oh well.

Regardless, I still say:

If your intent is so pure and innocent why do you keep hitting people with pointed statements that are putting them on the spot?

They're not the problem. You are. Stop trying to project the issue onto the people who complain about your posts. There's a reason why they do that and they have every right to.

This is not a problem that is solved simply by "having tea together."

The problem is that you're not willing to communicate your exact meaning. You continue to say things as vaguely as you possibly can, and then get indignant at people for not grasping exactly what you meant instead of clarifying for them. You said previously (I can't remember if it was in your previous thread or via PM) that you had a lot of writing experience, and as a result you were upset that your communication wasn't understood. Well, let me tell you, as a person who has been through a lot of college writing classes, where you're at is only half the skill you need to be a good communicator. You can learn to be flowery and descriptive and fill entire pages by waxing poetic, but the other half of writing skill is learning how to trim the fat - how much can be removed from your words while still carrying the necessary information. It's understanding that you have to choose your words, instead of throwing the burden of choice aside and using all of them. It's the art of getting to the damn point.

You could send paragraphs, entire pages, of clarification and reinforcement, but that does you little good without an easy summary. An elevator pitch, or a TL;DR if you will. Then you can expand on it with the necessary information, and descriptive fluff for effect, not just for poetic license.

Maybe let's try another tack (and this is not in contradiction of what I said when you PMed this same post to us):

Most of us here are probably at minimum borderline Asperger's - nerds, computer people, tinkerer types. This means when we say things and listen to things, our first response is to assume that we are engaging in a logical discourse about the thing under discussion and that that is the primary purpose of the communication rather than the communication being intended primarily to save face or establish goodwill or to capitalize on an existing relationship to obtain or stock up on favours.

That means that if you post something with high emotional content but the logical or factual matrix is substantially incomplete, we're gonna call you out on that and even if we like you we won't give a shit if doing so makes you lose face because from our point of view the only way to lose face in such a situation is to fail to correct the error.

To put it another way: I have not seen anyone "challenge" you personally about anything - merely point out "problems" that could be solved. (EDIT: To clarify per Weasel's point, one of those "problems" may be missing information.)

Does this help you understand why a lot of us aren't just going to accept your forgiveness at face value, in the absence of an apology from you something from you indicating you understand how you contributed to the problem and will take steps to refrain from it in the future?

Or in my case, attempting to give information that could stand to prevent future problems.

Mostly the thing I care about is that you stop repeating the mistakes. From what I have seen all I see from you is "I didn't mean anything bad by it!" but failing to understand the problem or why we're upset.

I don't need an apology. Even a simple acknowledgement of the problem (by stating it, "I know I have problems" won't do) goes very far with me. But even without that it's good enough for me if you simply stop doing it, and stop trying to bring it up.

The reason it remains an issue with me is because you've made no effort to understand, acknowledge, or attempt to fix the problem at hand, and continue repeating the same mistake until I've lost all my patience. No amount of "I really didn't mean to upset you" will change that. I know you didn't. Trust me, if I thought you had ill intent, you'd be long gone before now.

Adding to this, you don't really seem to have expectations that could actually be met.

In your last thread, you complained about something along the lines of "6000 out of the MILLIONS of wage earners not giving $1" or something along those lines. But y'know what?

Image

There's not even 6,000 people with registered acounts. But even then, only a fraction of those people are actually active and can see your post. The amount of simultaneous active users has topped at only 386, and that was August of 2016 - as far as that number today, it fluctuates at around only 20% of that.

And that's before trimming out the people who aren't wage owners, or barely make enough to support their family to begin with.

Because the fact of the matter is that most people are poor as shit too. Having internet isn't a sign otherwise - some places have pretty cheap internet, and it's not hard to find bargain bin computers or smart phones, all pretty wise investments due to just how versatile these devices are. So, all in all, saying stuff like this is just damning people who are in no position to prioritize someone they don't even know over themselves, when there aren't even enough of them to fund you with a single dollar alone.

Like, sure, you probably posted that fundraiser elsewhere, too. But that doesn't change anything unless the cumulative amount of people who could've seen it was way over 6,000, between the fact some people just won't care and others literally can't afford to care.

Here's a hint, Nani: If sympathetic pleas were met with skepticism, what do you think indignant outrage was going to gain?

Here's another hint: Just because we're fellow DooMers doesn't mean we necessarily know each other as friends. Some helpful light informal reading that may sum up the matter.

I almost forgot to add:
Naniyue wrote:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M NOT THE BAD GUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And neither are any of you! This stuff has simply gotten out of hand! If I've come across as rude, it was truly unintentional, and I apologize. I'm only human, and probably make more mistakes than anyone else in this forum! However, saying my writing is cliche is an insult.

Thank you.

We can't sympathize with someone who reacts poorly if things don't go their way and then blame others for their misfortunes (and believe me, I can't tolerate those kinds of people). Maybe if you were direct to the point instead of getting so defensive, then we would be more understanding of your situation. If you're still making the same mistake, like Rachael has already mentioned and then repeat it over and over...we're bound to lose our patience at some point.

If still you don't get our point why others are like that to you, then it's hopeless.
