SJW literally means nothing now. If you're going to use it in an argument at all, you may as well accept defeat.insightguy wrote:And what's wrong with saying SJW? I get that the term gets thrown around to the point of being as watered down as "fascist" or "Nazi" but why bother rewording it?

Personally I would not say that, but then again, internet discourse gets so toxic to the point that labels may as well label anyone anything and get away with it. "Anyone who disagrees with me is a [insert label here that you hate]"Shadelight wrote:SJW literally means nothing now. If you're going to use it in an argument at all, you may as well accept defeat.
Taking things back though, why the hell would we even WANT a Duke Nukem movie if we have not had a game in a while? Or is this Randy "Re-tweeting porn of my dying game for marketing purposes" Pitchford just trying to cash out because the greedy motherfucker want's to milk the duke license while he has it?
This entire thing makes me sad for the entire build trinity, one got out and is doing OK for the most part, one is locked in a closet that's trapped in IP hell, and this one is being milked for all his IP worth with no actual new product coming out.

Randy is a fucking prick. They literally gave Duke Begins the green light and then told them "it may never be legally released, we'll see how we feel when you finish." They were scared it would out perform DNF. Give the license to someone that loves The King.insightguy wrote:Personally I would not say that, but then again, internet discourse gets so toxic to the point that labels may as well label anyone anything and get away with it. Considering there's this...they probably shouldn't.RexS wrote:Give the license to someone that loves The King.
Having a miscast wrestler in a paramount flop would be far more dignified.

As I've been reading this I've been thinking it's this guy. Slap some shades on him, square up the hair and I think it'd be a good facial fit. Same issue though, could he do the voice?
Re: John Cena to star in Duke Nukem movie
I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a Duke Nukem movie. Almost every game turned into a movie became a huge steamin' pile of turd stinking up as high as heaven. No, not just Uwe Boll-made ones. Generally they are a disappointment, mainly because the game revolves around the accomplishments of the hero from level to level, and makin' a movie out of it will become very dull extremely soon. One player FPS games cannot yield good movies.
Sure it'd be awesome to see Duke Nukem kicking ass and chewing bubble gum (and he's all outta gum), experiencing Pig Cops, Octabrains getting shrunk or deep-freezed, but the budget of making a movie out of his adventures - Lunar Apocalypse is an excellent example - would be too much of a budget. Also, the plot of evil aliens invading Earth is kinda tiresome by now.
But that's just my 2 cents.

Re: John Cena to star in Duke Nukem movie
I think people seriously overstate how bad video game-based movies are. It's not as if every video game movie adaption is on the level of Super Mario Bros. Are there some stinkers? Sure. Are they high-class cinematic gold? No. But the likes of Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Doom, Tomb Raider, Warcraft, etc, can be worth a watch on a lazy day. They're not that bad.Reactor wrote:Almost every game turned into a movie became a huge steamin' pile of turd stinking up as high as heaven.

I love Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil.Chris wrote:I think people seriously overstate how bad video game-based movies are. Doom, though? Are you serious? Doom was worse than Super Mario...
Re: John Cena to star in Duke Nukem movie
Well, Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil are rare exceptions. An FPS game with only one protagonist would be impossible to create a good movie out of.

I don't mind the Doom movie. It's not a go-to recommendation, but I don't regret watching it and I wouldn't complain if there was nothing else to watch.RexS wrote:Doom, though? Are you serious? Doom was worse than Super Mario...

i have two or so copies of the movie, and i've never found the time or motivation to watch it. makes me wonder why i even picked those copies up at all.

You could try using them as a beverage coaster.
