I know this isn't news to some of you, but the SNES port of DOOM contains several unused face sprites for the status bar.
Also, here are the ripped sprites by CacodemonTube.

Re: Unused face sprites in SNES DOOM
I spend a lot of unrealistic time reading tcrf.net lol.
Re: Unused face sprites in SNES DOOM
Another SNES DOOM discovery found by CacodemonTube.
This is a big curiosity, especially since the multiplayer mode (using XBAND) only shows the players their front shooting sprite.
I think I've also heard from somebody that the SNES port has all the IWAD data inside. Perhaps this needs further investigation just to prove this?

Re: SNES DOOM oddities/discoveries
Hi everybody!
Thank you for sharing the content. It’s great to see other people’s thoughts on them.
I’m still an amateur when it comes to Rom Hacking. But I’m really interested in this version and want to dissect every single thing that’s in this game.
If anyone has found other stuff feel free to tell me.

The only other thing I know is that overclocking the Super FX chip yields some interesting results, making the game more playable, and that there are some hardcore defenders of this game who genuinely think there's worth playing it today.

Re: SNES DOOM oddities/discoveries
I’m not saying it’s the best way to play Doom. Far from it. I just find the port really interesting for the differences it has compared to other versions. How it’s different from the Jaguar based ports. Those differences are also because it uses a different engine. There is not much known about the port (How the custom engine works and such...) and that really fascinates me. And I really want to show them to people.DoomRater wrote:The only other thing I know is that overclocking the Super FX chip yields some interesting results, making the game more playable, and that there are some hardcore defenders of this game who genuinely think there's worth playing it today.

Re: SNES DOOM oddities/discoveries
I can't say i love this port, but to think a group managed to fit Doom in a SNES cartdridge (complete with good use of the music chip and the same PC animation ticks), hell, this is a victory. Better than the Sega 32x port, at least.

Mind sharing your SNES DOOM videos here once you've uploaded them on YouTube? Who knows what knowledge we haven't known yet regarding the SNES port.

This is my restoration of E1M6 Central Processing (The map that was cut from the original SNES Version.)
And this is my experiment with the SNES Doom Engine to see how many Lost Souls can be rendered at once.

Re: SNES DOOM oddities/discoveries
I never really played the SNES version, but I must say the music is pretty well done.

I did. I was completely disappointed that I couldn't circle strafe at all.
SNES DOOM Modding ft. CacodemonTube
Remember CacodemonTube who has discovered various SNES DOOM oddities mentioned in my another thread?
They're back at it with the SNES DOOM business.... now with custom maps!
A little custom map made to showcase the enemies' behavior in the SNES port
MAP01: Entryway of DOOM II
E1M6: Central Processing (originally unavaliable in SNES port)
An original city map to push the Rage/Reality Engine's limit
What do you think of these custom maps?

I had a feeling you'd started a thread about this before - I've gone ahead and merged them together.
