This is a dedicated thread where you may post free games for people to enjoy.

Rules:

• Games must be "no strings attached." This means no prerequisites or hoops such as like-farming, share-to-download, surveys, etc.
• No abandonware, warez, grey-market, or anything else that breaks forum rules.
• No freeware, unless it just recently went free and hasn't been posted before.
• Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, or developer-direct deals are trusted and preferred.
• Post the expiration date of the deal, if any. If it's a Steam free weekend, say so.
• No key giveaways. Make a separate thread for those that.
• No reposting a game unless it's a fresh deal.
• Keep chatter / discussion to a minimum, and preferably directly related to the deal.
• If you are having issues with the games, please use this thread to discuss them.

Off-topic or rule-breaking posts will be reported to the moderation team for removal.

Are games that have always been free okay, or is this just for games that used to be paid but are now free or that are temporarily free? (Just wanna make sure.)

Preferably games that are on some kind of temporary deal OR just recently went fully-free. Want to avoid just spamming normally-free games since a lot of folks probably know about them already.

Unless you feel like it's a game people haven't heard of. Cave Story, no. Ascii Sector, probably yes.

Psychonauts is free at Humble Store for another 32 hours or so, but that's what kicked off this thread so you probably know.

Probably the best free game list I've ever seen shamelessly stolen from the Bay 12 forums. Should follow every rule in the OP.

I recommend Tyrian 2000 for that old-school shoot-em-up game with different options for your ship's offense and defense.

Tyrian 2000 is great. There's also OpenTyrian, which IIRC doesn't include the extra Tyrian 2000 content BUT is open source and as such has been ported to every platform under the sun.

A good chunk of the original Tyrian artwork has also been freely released for people to use in their own games.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is free on GOG for the next 46 or so hours.

Back To Bed- Free on Steam until 2017-09-21 at 10am US PST.

In Back to Bed you guide the sleepwalker Bob to the safety of his bed by taking control of his subconscious guardian named Subob. Together they will travel through a surreal and painting-like dream world, avoiding dangers and getting safely back to bed.

These are pretty fun. Really standard horror stuff, similar in tone to FEAR, so don't expect anything particularly groundbreaking, but it's well made.

The original Fallout is free on Steam today, to mark the game's 20th anniversary.
