Centered, because it's easier to aim, unless a crosshair is being used, then I don't care.

Most angled sprites are so badly done that they'd aim somewhere in the wild, not the target at the center of the screen

Depends on the sprites really. For example, the D4 weapon sprites. Extremely well done and pleasing to use, and they're angled weapons.

Angled weapons have a few advantages:
  • Show off the weapon better. Whether for eye candy or recognition purposes.
  • Don't block the view below, where freelook is a thing.
  • Make big shoulder type guns like rocket launchers look less stupid.
  • Dual-wielding is as easy as using a mirrored graphic/model.
Advantages of centered weapons:
  • Horizontal aiming when there's no crosshair. (Unfortunately, this requires them to be offset properly.)
  • Covers less space. (If you don't care about seeing things near the floor.)
  • It's the way Doom does it, so it must be the right way. :v

I prefer centered ones for Hitscan and Projectile attacks personally.

Centered because Doom and Quake style weapons, angled for others (Modern game rips, eg. Black Ops I and II).

Wait, what other kinds are there?

So literally "the way it already is", I.E. not really a preference at all.

Centered weapons all the way! I remember playing Quake 2 Test back in the day, and thinking that the angled weapons looked stupid. Yeah, it's more "realistic" but a lot of times it just feels like screen-clutter to me.
