So I have been playing the closed beta for the past few weekends and I am highly disappointed. I expected a lot more from ID after DOOM 2016 but this is just utter shit. It's like running Quake1 on a dial up modem right now, balance is shit, modes are shit.

This is a fucking beta and this is what it's like? It's supposed to be released this year? Dead on arrival no question.

I can't even get far enough to form an opinion. The menu works just fine, but any time a game actually starts it lags to hell then crashes.
You can have the best game in the world, but if only 25% of your targeted demographic can actually run it then you're screwed.

From that video it looks kinda... old fashioned? (And not in a good way.)

I see some peoples in this topic are disapointed...

Anyway,i must say i do like the characters models and some of the throwback skins for Doom Guy/Slayer,BJ and the Ranger.

Here's the customization video for BJ :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT4XL9gNkxU

And the one for Ranger:

As for the design of the environments/arena,they all sure look nice.

Also is it me or Nyx kinda look like Vela from Jet Force Gemini (N64)

But seriously guys,i think your expectations might be a bit high when it come to the gameplay, sometime simplicity is not a bad thing,so calm down and enjoy the game.

I'm very dissapointed. As for me it's barely playable in terms of gun control and accuracy. I can't kill anyone by most of its arsenal so... screw it.

The most ironic thing of this game is that Scalebearer is the character being used in 95% of the logos and merchandising you see around yet ingame nobody uses him due to being a complete crap to play and i have to say that despite the artist which designed him spending some effort in drawing him, he doesn't look interesting at all because his entire visual is just the default of scifi nowdays games.

And what's even more ironic, almost all characters look this way.

Exept for Slash, Ranger and BJ. Yup, even Slayer looks like default sci-fi soldier.

Galena looks pretty good. Honestly wouldn't mind a spin off game with her as the protag.

Classic Doomguy's outfit is only memorable because it's so 90s and, frankly, ridiculous. The "generic" look is only generic because it's closer to existing, more practical designs. (Gigantic helmets and bared midriffs are out, at least for males. But that's a different matter.)

Even the iconic Spartan II helmet was clearly based on a motocross-style helmet, right down to the notched "brim". (This was really apparent in the original game's Mk. V armor.)
