Anyone else hate death match?

from what i can see that game isn't about "killing" each other (since encouraging killing people in a Nintendo multiplayer game would probably be bad news), but more about painting the environment/completing other objectives, right? it'd be interesting if killing other players would be a viable means to win the game, but i guess it isn't in the game precisely to stop people from doing it all the time.

It actually is in most cases. Although you ultimately win by achieving the main goal, the respawn timer is long enough where splatting the opposing team lets you do that far more effectively if they're always sitting around doing nothing.
