The Guts and Gore of DOOM Glory Kills (NEW VIDEO)

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

The Guts and Gore of DOOM Glory Kills (NEW VIDEO)

Postby Chubzdoomer » Fri Aug 28, 2015 2:00 pm

Apologies if this has already been posted.

It's from the E3 2015 Live Stage which means there's no new gameplay footage, but we do get to see some higher-quality E3 footage which is nice.

In the video they keep referring to "arenas," though, and that concerns me.

This quote early on is especially worrisome:
You're in these arenas and as you saw there, there's enemies behind you, there's enemies in front of you, and you're constantly moving; so we needed something that, in this "push forward" space, allowed you to really quickly and efficiently (and in a very 'DOOM' style) finish these close quarters combat engagements.

Arenas...
Constantly moving...
Push forward space...

Sounds to me like the levels will indeed be quite linear and play out much more similarly to those in Serious Sam, Painkiller, and the latest Shadow Warrior than the labyrinths all throughout DOOM and DOOM II.

EDIT:
A few more new videos:

Unless they royally fuck up modding then I don't particularly mind vanilla Doom 4 being a slaughterfest.
It looks fun, and I'm sure it will be fun.

While it doesn't matter to me too much because the modding capabilities are there, I still can't help but feel sorrow that they didn't quite get what the Doom experience was. It wasn't supposed to be endless slaughter like in Serious Sam, but it wasn't exactly a moody corridor where you occasionally shoot like Doom 3 either.

It was a melding of the two: you trying to make your way through a maze while enemies kept coming where you would least expect.
Surprisingly, I think they had something going with the hand-based "puzzle." It was slow, sure, but it was intense.
Actually, that's probably the best way to describe Doom in my book. Intense. It could mean intense physically, but it could also mean intense mentally. That's Doom to me, at the very least - I don't know about the rest of you.

I still think that they should improve the shotgun range a fair bit honestly.

They could really lessen the yellow filter.

If you pay attention to the lights in the weapon, you'll notice it's not a yellow filter. Notice how the weapons get much more yellow/orange when near lava/molten metal. From what I can see, it's just that the levels they showed us are Hell and Factory/whatever themed. IIRC there's a few places in one/some of the videos where there isn't any yellow tint/light at all.

I also noticed a lot of the textures in the tech base theme are yellow. I like it though! giving colour to a tech base is always nice.

the screenshots of Hell shows it's not as piss-yellow as the videos would like you to believe. i blame the video-compression on making the games look worse than they really do; the screenshots show off some rather stunning detail. now i just hope i am able to play it fairly decently...

I found these back then: http://imgur.com/a/vZbOM. The colored ones look better IMO, though there are some pics where the unedited ones are better.

There's quite a few areas in the gameplay footage shown that don't have the yellow lighting. Here's some screenshots of the game that show those areas.

See, that's what I thought was going on. It seems perfectly reasonable to assume that there's going to be some kind of volcanic activity in hell.
