Earliest game I can remember to feature such is Quake 1

It's usually referred as to "Quake Style", so perhaps it is at least the first mainstream game to have it.

Cheat codes haven't been the same since then. We went from that reference I get it or what could these series of letters stand for to GOD and NOCLIP.

Abuse clocks in slightly earlier into 1995, though it's far more limited with its use. Given the game's linux heritage from the start it's not too surprising.
