FPS's that need to be remade/revived

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

I was about to say Blood but it'd inevitable be awful if modernized. I feel what actually needs to be revived isn't a specific IP or set of gameplay gimmicks, but a return to good level design which encourages exploration and is neither open but empty like the farcry series or completely linear like CoD and it's ilk. Minerva: Metastasis did it well, and though an MP map I really liked the design of Cache in CS:Go. It reminded me of Quake 2's DM maps a bit for some reason.

I noticed that almost every single Terminator game is fubar, Teminator 3: War of the Machines is no exception. After all these years, some development company could have come up with a decent Terminator game with a good campaign.

I always thought Future Shock/Skynet was great. It was Fallout 3 before we had Fallout 3:

Huge, expansive outdoor environments of a post nuclear holocaust.
Radiation craters/no-go zones with Geiger warnings.
Being silently stalked by enemies out of the darkness/horizon.
Scrounging around in the (sometimes) relative safety of ruined buildings.

Terminator: Future Shock had a very specific feel to it that I didn't fully appreciate at the time. In fact many of the same people worked on both games (including Todd Howard).

I seem to recall there was a project to remake Unreal I on the UDK, a trailer and some mapping work had been done, but I don't know if it ever got far.

Edit: The name of the project is "Legacy". It seems it migrated to UE4 last year, but I haven't been able to find it in the unreal engine forums.

This. If somebody wants to grab an old game and make an awesome reimagining, I'm cool with that. But mostly I'd like to see new games with new stories and content.

... This is one reason I get bored with Doom megawads. (The other being that ultimately, I don't care for Doom that much.)

Too bad nobody makes megawads for Heretic that don't poo all over progression/balance and add ten thousand new textures.

I never knew about Terminator: Futureshock but it indeed looks promising. Well, that's a relief after tons of unenjoyable/unplayable Terminator games. SkyNet was also moderately good, but unfortunately, Bethesda Shitworks made it a way that it completely refuses to run in DosBox.

Also, I like games with ten thousand new textures :D

Blake Stone. As something that doesn't take itself too seriously (The game looked and sounded kinda silly at times, I don't think it was meant to be taken too seriously. But I enjoyed the hell out of it and all its silliness.)

Blood. 2. Not the first one (only because it was already mentioned and I can see a remake for that anyway) Blood 2 was ok, but I wasn't feeling it much. Perhaps a remake would remedy this?

Daikatana.

...

I'm kidding on that.

Corridor 7

Aaaaand that's all I can think of right now.

Daikatana would actually be a pretty good game if you deleted the sidekicks and made the weapons have a bit more oomf to them.

Good maps would probably also help.

If made properly, Daikatana could have been an excellent game. Some aspects of the new Shadow Warrior remind me of what Daikatana was originally intended to me.

If a genie would grant a wish, Soldier of Fortune, or a good spiritual sequel for it, but...

I wanna see a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game... I mean that shit has SOOO much exploration and planning in mind. I could literally play it for days on end and not get bored of it. Though I wish there was a remaster/sequel today that would polish up the graphics, gameplay and overall design a little bit.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, The Old City: Leviathan, and Kholat (which gets extra bonus points for being narrated by Sean Bean) are all very much in the Dear Esther mold. There's also the forthcoming Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, which is being created by the same developer who made Dear Esther. You'll need a PS4 though, since it's exclusive to that system.

I wouldn't mind more games like Jazzpunk, where it's less about emotion and introspection and more about batshit lunacy. (Or a new LSD Dream Emulator.)

This, by so much. It was such an odd, surreal experience that had moments of curious beauty (as beautiful as the rough 3D world of the day it had, but still) and sheer strange horror just a few paces from each other. The really is nothing quite like it. Not to mention this new game could be made not only in Japanese, but several other languages, to appeal to a broader audience. More music too, be it straight up pieces that played normally 100% of the time, or just a few new, basic, "base" pieces that get distorted like the original had.
