The idgames archive is looking for a new maintainer.

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Hmmm....
nambona890 wrote:I was wanting one that thought like Sodaholic. The bogus lump WADs and malicious CCMD WADs being removed is enough. You don't have to segregate it. Archives should be easy to access whatever file you want. With them in the themes directory, we've had to either put outright porn in the WADs so it goes to x-rated, or just get rid of all rape jokes so it stays in the regular directories. I'm not complaining about the WADs being in themes, but about the fact that Bloodshedder just blocks the /terrywads directory from easy viewing on the Doomworld mirror.
Of course I'm damn fishy. I make Terry WADs.

... And you've been nominated to be an archive maintainer?! Great.
But it seems only popular opinions are allowed on here. You are not allowed to like Terry WADs. You have to hate them.

It would be more, if I hadn't hit Disapprove on his first three or so threads while he was still in approval queue.

I mean, really, nambona, you realize a lot of communities actively discourage creation and distribution of terrywads, right? Even the ZDoom forums has a flat-out rule against them. I'm not going to say you're not allowed to like them, but the products themselves are problematic, because you never know who around here might have epilepsy, a heart condition, or something else of that sort, plus most of the ones I've seen are in really poor taste to begin with. I'm not going to take a chance on them around here.

Do terrywads really need widespread community acceptance? It's clear that there's at least some small subset of the Doom community that actually like them (though I can't fathom why, from my perspective), but why is it such a big deal that they be accepted outside of those circles?

The weird part is they are accepted. A stricter archive manager would have just removed them, yet they are still clearly there, organised into their unique folder so everybody who wants them can find them.

Really, the complaint breaks down to "but guys how can I surprise people with threats of anal rape and bright seizure loops if they know what it is in advance!?". It's kind of ironic how the thing that annoys these people the most is not removal of their content, but categorisation.

If you don't like them, it's as simple as ignoring them. And "a lot of communities actively discourage creation and distribution of terrywads", that is why they are made. And if there's gonna be something epileptic or jumpscarey, the people on Doomworld could just mirror the .trapwarning onto the Doomworld /idgames or something.

And we can ignore them now, as they exist in /terrywads, and thus out of the way from the main content. See, the system works. :P

What I was thinking was just have Doomworld mirror the .trapwarning or .terrywad files at the top of the page, rather than having a maintainer segregate them, and the runner of the Doomworld mirror just blocking the directory outright from easy viewing. Every WAD should have a right to be in latest reviews, latest files, and the search tab.

Okay. So what? What is whining here going to accomplish?

You're pushing a very unpopular opinion, nambona, and seem to be ignoring large portions of our replies to you.

The reason it's unpopular is because the first thing that comes to peoples minds are either segregation or deletion. I'm just saying, the Terry WADs could still be in their regular directories, and have the .terrywad warning file mirror at the top of the Doomworld page for the file if it is a Terry WAD. How much better does that sound than completely hiding it from public viewing?

I'm sorry. I didn't know that having an unpopular opinion was considered whining.

You can always go find the folder with an FTP client. The files are not inaccessible. We just don't want to see them here.

Or since the image macro thing seems to be in vogue all of a sudden:

You've been doing nothing but in this thread. I don't have nearly enough cheese for your level of vintage whine.

Why do you think I don't know basic knowledge of the archives? They should be easy to access, and if people want to know it's a Terry WAD, at best Doomworld could mirror the warning file at the top of the page.

edward850 wrote:You've been doing nothing but in this thread.
That's because I don't use ZDoom forums that often, but this thread looked interesting. Then I started exchanging my opinions and thoughts on the current situation of the archive segregating Terry WADs, and Doomworld blocking the directory from easy viewing. And I know, I have known for a year, that you can get to it by themes/terrywads.

You're sounding a lot like a broken record right about now. Do you have anything else to add? We're not the right crowd to lobby about this.
