My thoughts on the doom 2 dev backup released by john romero

So recently, john romero released even more doom content, with his level editor, a hundred or so more cut textures and sprites. But he also released a set of early doom 2 levels, like the pit
There might actually be more to come, as the levels are missing some textures for them. you do need doom 1 and too to properly display most of the textures.
The levels are poorly balenced, with early levels having large amounts of enemy's. This shows doom 2 was to be a really grueling game on UV or even HMP originally.Levels that where hell levels sported techbase textures, and levels that displayed hell textures in where tech bases. this might be from before episode 4 was realeased, and was meant to "continue" from hell itself. The icon of sin is a pretty boring level, as its very unfinished. Also map 28 is a more flat version of map 32 grosse, and map 31 does not exist in this version.

It is more likely that they were put in early levels so that the enemies would be easier to test.

probally. I just found it to be a really interesting beta of one of the best game sequels
Edit saw so many great sprites including a mini berserk pack, minishellbox and other great things
(will be included in tei-tenga incident)

It's not a "beta", It's prototypes of game data. Many of the things excised are likely in the interest on keeping the requirements down to 4MB of RAM and the beauty of the KISS principle; no weird speculative theories necessary.
