Do people trust Mega?

Postby Xeotroid » Fri Apr 17, 2015 3:49 pm

Now without trying to do much unintentional advertisement, I'm planning on moving from Dropbox to Mega, however, because of its infamous reputation as a successor to Megaupload and that it's something full of pirated software etc. etc, I wonder if people trust it and links leading to it - a Dropbox link definitely looks more safe than Mega's, but how much?
Or should I try a completely different cloud storage service like Google Drive?

I trust it as much as all the others: Not at all.

I'd find it more trustworthy than Dropbox.

I don't find Mega that trustworthy, mainly because of Kim Dotcom's massive ego.

I'd rather use file storage from someone more professional.

I've used Google Drive for a while, but it screwed up so insanely often. If you don't wanna use Mega, DropBox and Mediafire are pretty nice.
Nothing is completely safe from the NSA anyway.

Main reason I wanted to move from Dropbox is because whenever you move a file on Dropbox, the link leading to it changes, which is really a pain in the ass. I tried Google Drive and it works pretty fine, except it won't let me upload folders because for that it needs Chrome (I use Firefox). Also it's a bit annoying having to manage all those sharing options - normally only you and selected people can access files, even from links. Dropbox on the other hand makes all files public, but you need to have a link. I'm not sure how it works when you have the paid account. I don't use GMail, so I can use all those 15 GB of space, which definitely is better than 2 GB + bonuses on Dropbox, but I didn't have problems with that yet.
The Mega's reputation just pisses me off. From what I read so far, its services are pretty solid, but losing potentional customers just because they see Mega is pretty bad.

Well, let's face it, if your data doesn't exist in at least three ZIP codes, it's not truly backed up.
