So Bobby Prince found an archival CD of a lot of things he was working on back in the early-mid 90s, and he's written up two articles on stuff from back then. Here's one about working on The Dark Ages, focusing on his first letter written to Scott Miller, and Here's one on Duke3D sound work, including a bunch of details about working on the game and with a set of potential sounds for the Overlord and Cycloid Emperor in Duke3D

His cancer fundraiser has been silent since May, but I'm hoping these posts indicate that he's doing well.

I wonder if this was a reference, in-joke, or just the funniest animal they could think of to put there?

Same.

Looking at his description of the kind of time pressure he was under during Duke3D's development, I'm a little more understanding about his music contributions being less interesting on average.

I'm still more of a fan of Lee Jackson though. :P

I need a new computer. The one I'm using right now is crapping out on me... display-wise.

It's overheating, it's doing weird screen flickering, and even blots out the entire screen to just any one color. It also keeps switching resolutions on me, and many times blacks out, so I can't see a damn thing that's going on.

Uggggghhhhhh...

I recall hearing from a 3D artist at MachineGames that the censored version of the game was pretty difficult work with lots of seemingly innocent things that had to be looked out for (I recall something about the number on the side of a moving vehicle having to be changed because motion blur could potentially make it look like a code number used by neo-nazi groups... stuff like that). I suspect whatever artist was doing the nightmare level decided to blow off a bit of steam and draw something silly.
