If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Project Warlock

Post by ramon.dexter »

Looks like the project warlock is nearing it's release - it will be out on 18.10.2018. I've been watching this project grow for three years and looks like it will be sort of rogue-like 3D shooter, made in Unity. I think I will buy this, I really like the theme.
Take a look at the release trailer. Graphics look good and retro. The only downside is that the monsters lack any kind of rotations :) (I have actually communicated with the autor regarding this, but he just said the the rotations take too much of time and work and basically are unnoticeable...). But, he made some good progress from when he hired professional artist to make the game look really cool.

I love the art direction on this - it has both the style and the actual aesthetic of oldschool first-person fantasy games, with the modernizations actually doing stuff that the older games should have done but couldn't.

I've been waiting for this for a good while, I will admit.

And I thought the project had died. Happy days.

Considering that the monsters are hand drawn, I can totally feel why the author doesn't want to go that way. I think that a roguelike benefits more from having a ton of varied monsters rather than having few fully sprited ones.

Not a huge fan of procedurally generated level design, RPG-roguelike elements and stuff like that, but the game is a clear work of passion and came out pretty damn solid by the looks of it. Kudos to the designer and everyone else who worked on it.

Retroblazer

which i enver liked either because it was a commercial prospect with asset flipping (several SNK games) while gaining disproportionate hype over everything else in the quake community then because of the whole square level "retro" sprite aspect....

It played and looked well enough to warrant some of the hype. I didn't like that it didn't let you look around and jump while at the same time it had holes in the ground and enemies on diferent heights shooting at you.

Yeah, but it would be nice if they could wait until it's been out for at least a little while, considering it's all hand-drawn and part of a newly released commercial product...

Seeing a Warlock TC could be fun, if done tastefully, but some decorum should be shown.

Please just respect the devs by not cannibalizing their games a week or so before release. Is it that hard?

It's always like this: a new indie game is about to be released and people already start butchering it from videos. When did we became like that? :(
